Instead of simply approving or rejecting your request, a host can suggest different dates or a different price. Here's what your options are.
The host suggested changes to my booking. What should I do?
Sometimes a host can't approve your booking request exactly as you sent it, but they'd still like to host you. In that case they don't have to reject it. They can suggest changes to your booking instead – new dates, a new price, or both.
Nothing changes until you agree. The booking stays exactly as it is until you reply.
How you'll find out
When a host suggests changes, we notify you by email and SMS, and the booking is marked in your My Housing account. To see the details:
- Go to the Bookings section of your My Housing account.
- Open the detail of your booking request.
- The box "The host suggests some changes" is at the top of the page.
What you'll see
The box puts your current booking next to the proposed one, so you can compare them line by line:
- Dates – the suggested move-in and move-out dates
- Rent schedule and total rent – every rent payment of the whole stay
- Service fee – recalculated for the new terms
- Security deposit – if your booking has one
- First payment – the first rent and the service fee together
The host can also add a message explaining why they suggest the changes. You'll find it in the same box.
You have 24 hours and three options
| Your reply | What happens |
|---|---|
| Accept changes | Your booking is confirmed right away with the new terms, and you continue to the lease signing process. |
| Message the host | Nothing is decided yet. The proposal stays open and the host can send you a different one. |
| Decline and cancel booking | Your whole booking is canceled. This can't be undone. |
1. Accept changes
If the new terms work for you, click "Accept changes" and confirm. Your booking is confirmed immediately under the new terms, and you continue with the lease signing process as usual.
If you saved a payment card with your booking request, we charge the new first payment (the first rent and the service fee) from that card as soon as you accept. The exact amount and the last digits of your card are shown before you confirm, so there are no surprises.
2. Message the host
Not quite what you had in mind? Click "Message the host" and tell them what would work better for you. The proposal stays open while you're talking, and the host can send you a new proposal at any time. A new proposal always replaces the previous one.
This is the option we recommend whenever you're unsure. Declining can't be taken back – a message can.
3. Decline and cancel booking
| IMPORTANT! Declining the changes cancels your whole booking, not just the proposal. The booking request can't be reopened afterward. If you change your mind later, you'd have to send a new booking request – and the property may be booked by someone else by then. |
So pick this option only when you're sure you don't want to stay at the property at all. If you only disagree with the suggested terms, message the host instead.
Good to know
- You have 24 hours to reply. If you don't reply in time, the booking request expires and can no longer be accepted – by you or by the host.
- The host can withdraw their proposal before you reply. If that happens, you'll see a message that the proposal is no longer valid.
- Only the newest proposal counts. If the host sends another one, the earlier proposal no longer applies.
- Dates can be taken in the meantime. If someone else books the property for the suggested dates before you accept, we'll tell you that the dates are no longer available. Message the host about other options.
- Booking through Flatio For Business? The comparison works the same way, only the first payment isn't shown – the service fee is invoiced to your company separately.
